I wanted to do a spooky villain image in honor of Nightmare Night and Halloween, but the question was which villain? Ultimately I decided, "Why be choosey?" I've seen plenty of fanfics where the spirit of Nightmare Moon returns and possesses Twilight or Celestia or some other character and then works to corrupt them, but why not take the path of least resistance and team up with someone likely to be sympathetic to your goals in the first place? I figure if the team-up gives Chrysalis a chance to feed on fear instead of namby-pamby love, then she'll never go hungry again.
I was also watching the Discord episodes the other week, and I couldn't help but notice as Twilight gets separated from all of her friends, then finds ponies who act nothing like them, and still eagerly slaps the Element of Harmony necklaces around their necks. By the end of the season, I suspect that she's much less blindly trusting, otherwise I would think that things could go badly very quickly.
In the corner of my mind, I could see this as being a nightmare Twilight is having, post invasion. A sort of after effect of the trauma. I mean, she truly was alone for a bit back there, till she came back with proof in the form of the real Cadance. That had to have been horrifyingly traumatic. Her friends, her teacher, her own brother turning on her in favor of some sick, demented impostor...
A nightmare could easily explain why Queen Chrysalis and Nightmare Moon are combined as the antagonist of her dream. The act of her being bound could conform to the common sensation of being unable to run or escape or move (when dreaming, and in a nightmare situation, the fight or flight response conflicts with the "paralysis network" that inhibits the moving of muscles while asleep. The function exists to prevent people from moving while dreaming... a thing that malfunctions in sleep walkers... and this paralysis can retranslate back into a dream when one dreams in an agitated state).
As for Luna... She IS Princess of the Night, and her domain does include protecting her subjects from nightmarish dreams. I wonder what would be going through her mind, seeing such an unholy abomination of her formerly corrupted self... her greatest mistake... and the Queen of the Changelings... I suspect she might be half inclined to beat the ever loving imagined snot out of it's dream derived carapace!!!
Stress relief, and all! Dear Twilight Sparkle, *zaps the ropes* Come and join us, in this fun! *Beats the ever loving snot out of Queen Black Snooty*
a doctor: I think she died because of a pic in DeviantArt because it was just to awesome for her mind to handle:/
